CEFORD Large Scale Farming Project

In November 2019 we partnered with Ugandan NGO, Community Empowerment for Rural Development (CEFORD) to establish a large scale farming project in the refugee resettlement area of Northern Uganda. The aim of the project is to establish a commercial farm as an avenue for creating employment opportunities for members of both the host and refugee communities, address food security issues in the area and also reduce the reliance on donor funds by generating a sustainable source of funds to be invested back into the region in the form of other community development projects. The project will focus on but not limited to growing bulk crops such as maize and rice, as well as seasonal vegetables including onions, tomatoes, Sukuma wiki (Kale), cabbage and watermelon.  Local distributors (mainly women) will be engaged to sell the produce at the local markets.

Our vision is a gradually expanding commercial venture that provides consistent and reliable source of income for members of the community, ensures availability of affordable produce at local markets and contributes to the wellbeing of the community through other community development projects.  After the initial injection of funds, the farm will operate and expand from the profits generated and therefore will not be subject to the uncertainty of donor funds.  If our current projections are accurate it will also generate significant profits to be ploughed back into community projects in consultation with the workers, the community and the local authorities.
